Athens

I visited Athens in the summer of 2017, with one of my best friends, Allie, during our post-graduation travels. She is also on this trip to Greece! What a treat!

Last time we were in Athens, it was rainy. Neither Allie nor I remember it being this cute. Now there are a lot of cafes and restaurants in the streets. Perhaps this is an artifact of outdoor dining from Covid?

One of the hundreds of cute places with outdoor seating. I didn’t take many pictures of the cafes. I guess you will have to visit to see for yourself 😉

Foods and Tavernas!!!

We ate family style as often as possible to share food and try everything. I loved this – when I travel alone, I don’t get to try as much. I also really enjoyed the conversation and company.

The Kolokithokeftedes, zuchinni balls, were amazing. These also had cheese in them.
Claire’s first Greek salad in Greece!
At our most memorable taverna, Tavern Kalokerinos, we got invited on stage to sing and dance. Here, we are trying to follow along with the belly dancer. Other times, we watched fancy traditional dancing and plate smashing.
The rooftop fancy dinner at Hotel Grande Bretagne was delicious. The dishes had fresh ingredients, but was quite a different taste and atmosphere than the taverna. The food was so good, I forgot to take a picture!

Acropolis

We stayed around the Acropolis area and the beautiful neighborhood of Plaka.

Beautiful! – όμορφο!

One early evening, we tried to tour the Acropolis. The ticket lady told us that it was a waste of money due to the late time of day. She was right. We opted for the free entry hill next to it to enjoy the sunset.

Reunited with Allie and Claire. We have been best friends for 10 years!
