Poros Week

Poros is an island in the “suburbs” of Athens.

We started our The Yacht Week adventures on a Saturday and ended them on a Friday. A week on a boat sailing around – how glamorous!

All the catamarans tied up together. We were the beginning of the “floatilla”. Eventually it amounted to 22 boats!

Here’s the view from the other side of our boat. We enjoyed taking innertubes from the party side to the calm side and then back again!

I tried to swim after that watermelon floatie, but the current took it away too quickly. I wasn’t able to catch up!
While we were waiting to dock in Poros, we all had a photoshoot. I like this pic!

Sadly the weather was not on our side, so we ended up docked at Poros for the majority of our journey, technically 4 of the 6 nights. Poros was cute, but we were originally hopeful to visit Ermioni and Dokos and sail around to enjoy the beauty of the sea!

This storm was a big rain that the region hadn’t seen since May. My friends and I made the best of it and still had fun. We danced in the rain in swimsuits and wandered around the city in ponchos. We made our own fun.

MINI RANT: The Yacht Week is a major sham. The clients are mainly Americans and some Australians because of the high price tag. I do not recommend the company to anyone. They did less than the bare minimum. The event staff had no plan B for any rain activities, and the skipper and host were pretty much MIA. It is a poorly run operation. For fear of turning this into a long list of complaints, I will stop there. END RANT

I do, however, definitely recommend privately chartering a catamaran with friends!!! Absolutely!

We woke up early to watch the sunrise everyday that the sun came out!

We had one non-rainy day in Poros where we wandered around the town and took in the sights!

One afternoon, we took a taxi ride in the middle of the island to a great family run taverna, Paradiso. Because of the rain, we had to sit inside; but the outside vine-covered seating was so charming. We ate family style. My favorite dishes were the fried cheese pie and the pasta with rooster.

We discovered the delicious lemon coke zero. It is very good, especially mixed with Malibu.
Luckily, we were docked across from a lovely cafe/bar, La Serenita.
The drink of choice here is freddo cappuccino or freddo espresso. Allie has the freddo cappuccino, and Claire has a warm cappuccino.
A super picturesque boat I spotted on our way back to Athens’ port.
