The Mountains

The mountains in the Peloponnese have some darling towns and lots of trees.

Stemnitsa

On my way through the town Stemnitsa, a cat was lounging in the middle of the street and would not move. I put my car in park and carried the cuddly cat to the side of the road. After I parked on the edge of town, the cat found me again. I gave the cat some pets for a few minutes.

I stopped for lunch where I enjoyed a meal. I wasn’t able to finish the salad. The portions are huge for just me alone.

Here are more lovely views of Stemnitsa.

Dimitsana

Dimitsana, the most beautiful town of mountains, is a summertime destination for foreigners to go hiking. It is a wintertime destination for the Greeks to go skiing. I asked if it would be strange if I, a foreigner, would visit during the wintertime, and they said it might be unusual but of course okay.

The main part of Dimitsana

I stayed at a super charming guesthouse, Amanities Guesthouse. The owners were very friendly, and the breakfast had so many thoughtful options.

For the guesthouse, I had to park on a hill. The man, Panos, told me that I should use the hand break, of course, but leaving the car shifted in first gear rather than neutral gave it an extra protection from rolling back.

In the night, the power went out. They said that it was not common for that to happen. I, along with other guests, did not have enough cash on hand to pay for my stay, so they wrote down our information to charge our credit cards once the power was restored.

Look at this breakfast!!! It contains things like banana loaf, aubergine quiche, melon marmalade, and so many other loving options.

The woman, Hera, asked if she would see me later in the day after my walk. Since I was checking out and on a bit of a time crunch, I told her “Not today… maybe next year!”

Posing next to the running water

I hightailed it back to Athens to return my car before my flight home. It was extremely intimidating to park my car on the busy street, so I circled twice and had the rental car man hop in to park the car for me. I gave myself a huge pep talk that I was not going to crash or cause a scene while trying to park the car, and instead, I pulled into the narrow driveway and called for help. It beats circling the block and taking 15 more minutes to try again!!
