Hot tub and Northern lights

Reine

Reine is nice town with all the things we need: a cafe, restaurant, a nearby hike, and a really cool guesthouse for accommodation.

The guesthouse, Catogården, had a sauna, wood fired hot tub, free yoga every morning, a wood burning fireplace, free tea and coffee, and really cozy common areas.

I liked this table with a planter built into it
The boot/glove dryer outside was so fascinating.
We wore fuzzy slippers inside

The hot tub was amazing and was heated by a wood burning fire. So cool!

We booked a hot tub session in the evening. It was cloudy pretty much every day, but we were hoping it would be clear enough to see the northern lights.

Northern lights!

Hooray we got to see the northern lights! We could even see them with the naked eye, although it was often much more apparent through the phone.

These pictures are unique compared to other northern light photos because it shows details of the location. You can also see the wooden racks where they would hang the stockfish to dry in the Lofoten Islands.

Turn the brightness all the way up to see the lights in the next one. I took a time lapse so it was not using night sight.

The night before, we saw a red northern lights for about 10 minutes. It was more of an ominous blob than a whimsical dancing light. We were grateful to see multiple types.

The rest of the world is seeing a lot of northern lights right now as well, even as far south as Texas, but that did not minimize my first sighting of the northern lights.

My first northern lights experience

Reine also had a lot of rainbows for us, although there were plenty of rainbows all around the Lofoten area – probably because of the rain!

In this next picture, there isn’t a rainbow, but you can see how much snow is accumulating even in just 2 days.

Such a beautiful town!
