On our way back to America, we stopped in Copenhagen again. It is good to be back in a city, and the weather here is more sunny. We definitely lucked out with the Copenhagen weather.
We wandered around the shops and buy some clothes. I have bought a lot of sweaters in preparation for a cold winter back home.

There are so many flower shops in Copenhagen! I love it!

One store owner offered us coffees as we shopped. I was careful to not spill on any of the lovely clothing items.

We also visited a couple of wine bars.

We found a store where we could make our own jewelry. That was a fun event. I made a bracelet, and Lauren made a necklace. Both were very beautiful.

Smørrebrød
Foodwise, I was determined to try smørrebrød before we left. Smørrebrød is an openfaced sandwich that is very popular in Denmark. The base is a very dense rye bread and then they are covered with are a variety of toppings – pickled herring, roastbeef, mushrooms, eggs, etc — and they are all decorated to perfection.
We tried to order 2.5 to 3 smørrebrød each, and the waitress told us that that was more than we would want. She was right; 2 each was enough.
We also ordered aquavit, a traditional distilled spirit. Each table had aquavavit glasses by default, and it seemed like a good opportunity to try with our smørrebrød meal. The waitress warned us to wait until our food arrived to try the aquavit and that the glass contained about 3 to 4 sips. Without her warning, we would have struggled with the strong taste. It was better to have a tiny sip between bites of smørrebrød.

Spiced herring with sour cream and capers

Hand peeled shrimps with lemon mayo and dressing. You can see the aquavit in the above picture too.

Chicken salad with Jerusalem artichokes and pepper bacon

Minced beef on toast with onions, beetroots, capers, and raw egg yolk. There’s a piece of toast hiding under these massive toppings.
